Fast Growth of EV Charging in Dubai
The UAE aims for 50% of all vehicles to be electric or hybrid by 2050, and Dubai is leading the way. DEWA’s EV Green Charger initiative, launched in 2014, continues to expand with ultra-fast chargers, public stations, and wall-box units across the city.
Growth accelerated sharply in 2025: from 740 charging points in March to over 1,270 by mid-year, a 72% surge. Nationwide, the UAE now offers about 2,000 public EV charging stations, with Dubai hosting the majority and Abu Dhabi ranking second. Smaller emirates such as Umm Al Quwain are catching up.
Rising Demand for EV Infrastructure
With more than 40,600 electric vehicles registered in Dubai by mid-2025, demand for reliable and convenient charging continues to climb. To enhance access, DEWA has partnered with Parkin, Dubai’s largest public parking operator, to install EV chargers in high-traffic locations, improving user experience and supporting round-the-clock charging.
Looking Toward 2030
Experts project the UAE will need 23,000 charging stations by 2030 to meet its ambitious adoption targets. Dubai’s success sets a benchmark for sustainable mobility in the Middle East and reinforces the city’s commitment to clean energy transportation.
