According to Zawya—DP World has significantly expanded its electric internal terminal vehicle (eITV) fleet at Jebel Ali Port—from just 14 units in December last year to 146 by October 2025—marking one of the largest electric port vehicle deployments in the Middle East.

The expansion is expected to cut diesel use and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 10 percent, equivalent to taking 2,255 cars off the road each year.

eITVs play a vital role in port logistics, transporting containers between quay cranes, yard stacks, and terminal gates. The upgraded fleet includes 35 diesel vehicles converted to electric by DP World’s in-house engineering teams and more than 100 new units sourced from leading global manufacturers.

Supported by a network of rapid-charging stations, the initiative underscores DP World’s commitment to sustainable logistics and decarbonised port operations. The company has also introduced 11 electric empty container handlers, used for stacking and moving empty containers within the terminal—further reducing operational emissions and improving overall energy efficiency.

Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC, said, “Electrifying our port operations is a strategic priority that supports UAE’s Net Zero 2050 ambitions. By scaling our electric fleet and transitioning to cleaner energy at Jebel Ali Port, we are building future-ready and more resilient supply chains that benefit our customers and the communities we serve.”

DP World’s transition to electric vehicles aligns with the UAE’s broader sustainability agenda and demonstrates how innovation in port logistics can play a key role in achieving national and global climate targets. By reducing emissions at one of the world’s busiest ports, the company is setting a new regional benchmark for green maritime operations and future-ready infrastructure.

As the UAE accelerates its path toward decarbonised transport and logistics, platforms like EVIS Abu Dhabi 2026 and Eco Mobility Global 2026 will continue to highlight innovations shaping the future of clean mobility and sustainable infrastructure.
