According to Khaleej Times the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announces the expansion of its EV Green Charger network. With more than 740 charging points now available across the Emirate, DEWA is fueling the rising adoption of electric vehicles, which exceeded 34,970 registrations in October 2024.

Locating a charging station has never been easier. DEWA’s smart app, website, and 14 other digital platforms provide a convenient and user-friendly way for customers to find charging points near them, ensuring a smooth experience for Dubai’s growing community of EV owners.

“We work in line with the vision of our wise leadership to transform Dubai into the smartest and happiest city in the world by adopting disruptive technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” stated Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, DEWA’s Managing Director and CEO. Since its launch in 2014, the EV Green Charger initiative has been integral to providing the infrastructure needed to support Dubai’s ambitions of having half its vehicles electric by 2050.

Taking a step further in its green mobility mission, DEWA recently unveiled a comprehensive Regulatory and Licensing Framework for EV charging infrastructure. This initiative opens doors for private sector engagement, aiming to accelerate innovation and investments in the sector. DEWA has already issued its first two Independent Charge Point Operator (CPO) licenses to Tesla and UAEV—a testament to its dedication to fostering collaboration and reducing mobility-related emissions.

The Green Charger network offers various options to meet the demands of different EV users, including ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box chargers. From 2014 to September 2024, over 16,828 customers have tapped into the network’s services, with DEWA delivering approximately 31,674 megawatt-hours of electricity to power electric vehicles—a clear indicator of the initiative’s success.

DEWA’s efforts underline Dubai’s leading role in green mobility and innovation. As the UAE advances toward its Vision 2050—which includes achieving net-zero carbon emissions. As EV adoption accelerates, Dubai’s journey toward a sustainable, electric future remains firmly on track.
